Spring Release Dutton-Jentoft Vineyard Pinot Noir
2021
Winemaker’s Notes
We planted the Jentoft Vineyard with our long-term vineyard partners, the Dutton family, in 2007 using our own special heritage vine selections rather than commercially available regular clones. This steep coastal site brings out the best in these vines and this vineyard has quickly found acclaim by customers and critics alike. For 2021 we chose to isolate the steepest section of the hillside for this bottling. The remaining vineyard parcels will combine with Dutton-Widdoes Vineyard to become our Ryan Pinot Noir, to be offered this Fall. What we have here is a wine packed full of vibrant coastal fruit, savory spice, bright acidity, and tangy freshness—a wine true to its place.
Soaring aromatic complexity—dark pure fruits, woodsy pine needle, and coastal tidal notes of kelp and iodine. Tiny red and black berry fruit intensity dominates the palate alongside red minerals, crisp red apple skin and savory spice. The wine has deep extract and richness underpinned by crunchy acidity and gentle supple tannins. There’s tremendous energy and lift to the wine and a long lingering echo of aroma and flavor. Drink between late-2023 and 2029. Stellar, magnificent Pinot Noir.
