Fall Release Sonoma Stage Vineyard Eoin Pinot Noir
2012
Winemaker’s Notes
Our Eoin designate Pinot is back after missing a vintage last year due to poor fruit set and uneven ripening in this windiest of vineyard sites, a straight shot off San Pablo Bay. This is a wine of site above all else. It’s what I’d call a ‘low-fruit’ style. It’s dominated by its windy environment and the nuances it picks up from the soil and surrounding plants in all that wind. Our use of one third whole clusters here, really adds a lot of diverse complexity and extra dimension to the wine. There’s a layered creaminess to the palate that sets it apart and allows the wine’s back end to really fan out and reveal all of its generous chewy flavor. It also steers the wine away from simple fruitiness toward that savory, spice and dried herb driven style that’s quite hard to achieve in this sunny climate. As always this wine is completely unique in our line up both in flavor, structure and style.
Brilliant dark ruby color in the glass. Dominated at first by savory spice, dried herbs, smoked meat and cut grass aromas, complex and subtle. Opens to sweet and sour rhubarb, orange zest and bergamot – maintains lovely freshness. Complex earthy wine, multi-dimensional. Filled with fruit density – blueberry and cassis, freshly-turned earth. Quite creamy mid-palate, silky and broad layers. Mouthwatering savory finish. Drink between 2015 and 2021.
