Fall Release Eddie‘s Patch Syrah
2022
Winemaker’s Notes
As the Mayacamas mountain range extends northwest from Napa, we come upon the high elevation Hoppe-Kelly Vineyard situated southeast of Healdsburg – on the edge of wilderness – where the Russian River, Chalk Hill, and Alexander Valley districts intersect. Mountain vineyards are typically distinguished and prized for their eroded rocky soils, mild days, and gently warm nights, which combine to allow small intense grapes to steadily ripen at moderate sugar levels and elevated acidity – and true to form, that’s why we have loved Hoppe-Kelly since our first harvest here in 2000. Its south facing steep hillside offers one of the finest views in Sonoma County, and its iron infused soils create the building block for world class quality. Following replanting in 2014 to the finest genetic vine material, wine quality has taken a huge leap forward, and our 2022 vintage is one of the finest in our long run here - it beautifully weaves concentration and freshness.
The 2022 Eddie’s Patch Syrah’s aromas and flavors feature rosemary and lavender, black cherry and blackberry pastille, tapenade and peppercorn, potpourri, and tobacco. There’s lovely purity to the wine’s deep core of red-blue-black fruits. Lilting acidity focuses the palate and combines with supple tannins on a finish that features floral notes, licorice, and mineral lift. Decant for an hour and drink between 2025 and 2035.
