Sonoma CoastCharles Heintz Vineyard
This old-vine, wide-row ridgetop vineyard is one of California’s most iconic sites, with a strong maritime influence delivering complex savory and mineral elements. Among its many remarkable traits, coastal fog moves directly through the vineyard during the growing season – neither above nor below it. This results in great diversity and detail in the aromas and flavors of the fruit. The soil type here is quite diverse as well. The western side of the site features sandstone close to the surface while the eastern side features more clay. We are able to build our Isobel Chardonnay by blending the fruit grown in these two soil types: sandstone soils offer savory wine with lots of acidity while the clay soils produce richer, rounder, fruit-driven wine.
